It has been a couple of days now and to be honest we thought about whether or not we should write about this. However, in the days that pasted since The Itawamba County school district canceled a prom to prevent 18-year-old Constance McMillen from coming to the prom with her female prom date things have not changed. We see this as yet another call to introduce more media, more television that depicts unity and understanding. Still today if you visit the networks you will not see a push for cure, you will see a push for aiding a victim. I would like to take a moment to say to all of those reading this article “We are not victims.” We can take our lives and our destiny in our own hands but we must create. We must start making noise and we must start making ourselves public figures.

Shortly following this story another story surfaced about a Catholic school Expellinga preschooler because her parents are a lesbian couple. Is this 2010? But then all of this was followed by California State Sen. Roy Ashburn, who voted multiple times against gay rights, stating to the media that he is homosexual himself.

My friends it seems as if all of this is screaming that it is time for change. Time for people to be told every day that who they are is wonderful. It is time that individuals are celebrated on every diverse level. So much so that people feel proud about every core of their being, their religion, their sexual orientation, their race, their everything. We have a unique opportunity to be a part of that solution. I hope that you will join us in our mission to develop and produce more positive and diverse media. Join us in producing media that changes society by changing the mindset. Join us in producing media that celebrates everyone and rebuilds the solidarity by celebrating the human experience in its entirety. We are the ones that we have been waiting for.

Peace,

Troy Horne
